Lumanaire Partnership Proposal · v1

Prepared for Lyric & Dianne Brown · JoziGirl Cosmetics

Africa's first inclusive beauty‑tech platform — built in Johannesburg.

A web-first virtual try-on experience tuned for African skin tones and textured hair, engineered by the Lumanaire AI fleet. Shorter timeline, local team, honest pricing — with a defensible moat that global SDK vendors can't build.

01 · What we heard

A homegrown beauty brand deserves homegrown tech.

You built JoziGirl to serve a market the global giants have historically underserved. The technology you deploy should match that ambition — not import it.

01A virtual try-on engine shoppers use on web & mobile
02Shade matching that actually works for African skin tones
03Hair-type recognition across 3A–4C textures
04Analytics for try-through-buy insight
05A checkout that converts try-on into revenue
06An accessibility story that differentiates in retail
02 · The moat

The AR is commodity. The library is the moat.

Perfect Corp, ModiFace and Banuba built excellent AR SDKs — but their shade libraries were built in Seoul, Paris and Tel Aviv. They under-match African foundation and under-classify coily hair. Here's what we build that they can't.

Bespoke IP · owned by JoziGirl

African Shade Library

A foundation-shade grid spanning Fitzpatrick IV–VI with African undertone ranges — neutral, red, olive, golden, deep — that global SDKs underrepresent. Training data stays in SA. POPIA-compliant. Your IP at project end.

240+ shade permutations
mapped from day one
Bespoke IP

Textured Hair Classifier

On-device 3A–4C classifier fine-tuned on a local dataset.

Distribution moat

Retail Accessibility

NaviLens codes on every SKU. First SA cosmetics brand with the story.

03 · Two tracks

The platform you need now.
The partnership you launch with.

Track 01 · We build

The JoziGirl Beauty Platform

A production-grade virtual try-on web app with checkout, admin, and analytics. MediaPipe for face tracking, DeepAR for hair. Your shade library and classifier sit on top — that's the IP we build for you.

  • Virtual makeup try-on — foundation, lips, eye, liner, blush
  • Textured hair try-on with 100-wig library
  • African shade-match engine (your IP)
  • Hair-type classifier 3A–4C (your IP)
  • Shopper checkout — Yoco payments
  • Admin dashboard with analytics
  • Phone OTP + email auth
  • Hosted at app.jozigirl.co.za
Track 02 · We broker

Accessibility via NaviLens

The "Pharaoh Code" concept is essentially NaviLens — already deployed at Tesco Ireland, Kellogg's, NYC MTA. Rather than clone it and risk IP claims, we position JoziGirl as NaviLens's South African launch partner.

  • Broker NaviLens SA partnership introduction
  • Integration layer — NaviLens ↔ JoziGirl catalogue
  • Codes on packaging read shade, price, reviews aloud
  • Deep-link from scan to virtual try-on
  • Shopper analytics for retail-partner pitches
  • The accessible SA beauty brand positioning
  • NaviLens licence fees pass-through at cost
  • Priced separately after intro confirmed

09 · Why Lumanaire

An AI fleet building at South African cost, global quality.

01

Production-proven stack

RealtyPA · Respocare AI · GenX AI Healthcare · Content Creator Awards · Command Center. Seven production deployments in 18 months.

02

Built for speed

An AI fleet across Tailscale-networked Mac minis — ops, content, pipelines, incidents — shipping, reviewing, deploying automatically.

03

South African

Cape Town + Johannesburg hours. Same-day phone calls. Grant-funded projects are familiar. POPIA-first, ZAR contracts.

04

We use what we build

Our own Command Center hub platform is the template your admin dashboard inherits from. 18 months of polish baked in.

10 · TIA Funding Alignment

Built to meet Technology Innovation Agency requirements.

This project qualifies for TIA's Seed Fund (up to R1M, TRL 3–8) and the Women Technology and Innovation Programme (WTIP). Below is the information TIA evaluators need — technology readiness, commercialisation pathway, transformation impact, and milestone-based budget.

Technology Readiness Level progression

Current: TRL 3–4 (proof of concept). Target: TRL 7 (system prototype in operational environment).

TRL 3
Proof of concept validated
TRL 4
Technology validated in lab
TRL 5
Phase 1 — MVP validated in relevant environment
TRL 6
Phase 2 — demonstrated with real users (beta)
TRL 7
Phase 3 — system prototype in retail environment

Innovation statement

Four dimensions of novelty position this project as a Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) initiative with national significance.

1st

African shade engine

First locally developed foundation-matching system for Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin tones with African undertone ranges.

AI

Textured hair classifier

First SA on-device hair classification model covering 3A–4C coil patterns, trained on a locally sourced dataset.

4IR

AI/AR convergence

Real-time augmented reality and machine learning for inclusive commerce — core Fourth Industrial Revolution technology.

ZA

Import substitution

Replacing offshore SDK licensing (Perfect Corp/Seoul, ModiFace/Paris) with South African-developed intellectual property.

Commercialisation pathway

Defined route from prototype to revenue with identified customers and measurable targets.

Revenue model

B2C: E-commerce checkout on try-on platform (Yoco payments)

B2B: Shade library API licensing to Woolworths, Dis-Chem, Pick n Pay

Go-to-market

Instagram + TikTok community build → waitlist → private beta (500 users) → retail pilot with 1–3 national chains

Year 1 targets

5,000 MAU · R500k GMV through platform · 3 retail partnership conversations initiated

Year 2 targets

25,000 MAU · B2B API licensing live with 3 retailers · R2M+ annualised GMV

Economic inclusion

Democratises access to beauty technology for African consumers historically underserved by global platforms calibrated for lighter skin tones.

Skills transfer

Lumanaire trains JoziGirl team on platform administration, analytics interpretation, and content management — building in-house tech capability.

Sustainability

Virtual try-on reduces physical product testers (hygiene + waste), supporting environmental sustainability in retail cosmetics.

IP protection strategy

Ownership

All source code, shade library data, and hair classifier models owned 100% by JoziGirl (Pty) Ltd at project end.

Developed in SA

IP developed entirely in South Africa by SA-based development team (Lumanaire, Cape Town + Johannesburg).

Protection

Trade secrets (shade library formulas), copyright (codebase), trademark (JoziGirl brand). POPIA-compliant — no training data leaves SA.

Milestone-based budget (TIA-aligned)

Disbursements tied to verifiable deliverables at each TRL gate. Total project cost R550,000 — within TIA Seed Fund R1M cap.
